Super Mario 64 Easter Eggs, Myths and Secrets
One of the most fun games on the N64
Super Mario 64 released in 1997. The game is full with secrets, myths and easter eggs and I looked them up and tried to find answers to them. A few days ago nintendo announced the Super Mario 3D All-Stars with a graphical update of Super Mario 64. I will do my best to update the gif's and images of the things discust here. If they still persists in the updated version of game.
1. Fishies Stick to Mario's Shoe
The animals in this game are absolute mad lads. This is the first thing you can directly do when starting the game and this is after you destroyed Mario's face.
Just go to the Princess Toadstool "Peach" royal pool when starting the game. Go right over the mountain do a tripple jump to reach it. Do not just walk arround the mountain just work for it. Don't be lazy like me.
Once you reach the famous pool you can start jumping and jumping and jumping. The most mad lad of all the fishies will stick on the foot of Mario and Mario will kick the fish right of his shoe. The fish will drop like a atom bomb directly back to the water. It looks amazing.
2. Butterflies are Transformers in Tiny-Huge Island
Make sure you enter Tiny-Huge Island as huge Mario so you can show your dominance against the butterflies. The butterflies in Tiny-Huge Island are transformers. 3 of those transformers will appear when you walk to small but glorious hole.
I started hitting and kicking the butterflies like you do in real live but maybe just toughing them is enough for them to transform in their true inner forms.
Because Mario is huge, one of the butterflies will get the heck (pardon my french) out of there and will go right through to the wall. One will transform in a one man and the last one will transform in a bowlingball and explode.
3. Tuxie the Mimic Penguin
On the start of Cool Cool Mountain you can find Tuxie the Penguin and instead of throwing him of the mountian you can let him live for a while and start diving next to him, You will be suprised that he will dive with you. The other baby penguin does the same thing but you can throw him off the world.
So this is one of the other things you can do with the penguins instead of trowing them of the mountian wich is pretty cool in my opinion.
4. King Bob-omb Turns Into a Rolling Ball
King Bob-omb is the exception of the bowlingballs he is the only bowlingball with arms within de Mario universe. In the first level of Super Mario 64 you will be picked up by a king as if you are Simba and throws you off the mountain.
After you made sure that the king becomes unable to ever sit down normaly and you enter the world trying give him a second beating, he transformed himself into a smaller rolling ball and will be going from left to right for the rest of is live.
5. L is Real 2401 or Eternal Star
A pretty unknown myth is the L is Real 2401 sign in the back of the haunted garden of the castle. Some read L is Real 2401 and same say its says Eternal Star however it doesn't say anything.
Ocarine of Time and Super Mario 64 are developt in the same time period and they shared a lot of textures and even a few levels where shared. This texture is no exception. In the second dungeon in Ocarina of Time you can find the same texture.
3 years ago a user by username u/b0nd18t posted his letter that he received back from Nintendo of America in 1998. In the letter it states.
In your letter, you asked why the "L is Real" message is on the statue in Super Mario 64. Many people think it's a hint that Luigi is in the game and it has something to do with a special code. The real answer is that the programmers put it in there as a joke. They thought people would try and try to figure out what it means. It doesn't have any meaning at all.

6. Imposable Coins in Tiny-Huge Island
A few useless coins can be found in the wall on Tiny-Huge Island its next to the first pipe when crossing the rivers when starting the level. That's it there is not that much more to say about it.
7. Secret One Up in Whomp's Fortress
After Mario pulverized the boss in Whomp's Fortress a tombstone appears disguised as a tower. A heat seeking missile is protecing to new tombstone.
Try avoiding the heat seeking missile and go to the back and hit the new tombstome where the last "one man" can be found from the pulverized boss.
